Avene Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Serum – Dehydrated Sensitive Skin | Review, Photos

I have a combination skin that tends to get very dry and at times flaky in colder climates. I picked this serum when my skin was facing dryness issues and was flaking as if regenerating...nah but you get the drift rightAvène Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Serum is made for very dehydrated and sensitive skin, so when I saw it in my nearby drugstore I instantly did my research and picked it up few days later. Let's see what is it and all such details about it.

Avene Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Serum

What is a serum?

Let me first give you a brief about what a serum is. Serum is a very concentrated solution containing active ingredients that is specified to take care of one or more issues of your skin by penetrating deep in the tissues of skin unlike the regular moisturizer that do not go that deep under the skin and form a barrier on the skin so as to lock the moisture. There are plenty of serums available in the market that cater to various aspects like pigmentation, dryness, anti-ageing, nourishing, brightening, etc. You should always check for the primary area a serum claims to work on, like in my case I wanted something to deal with dryness hence I opted for a serum that is hydrating.

A serum is ideally applied once you are done with cleansing and toning/prepping up the skin and before the moisturizer so that all the ingredients of the serum are nicely absorbed by your clean and bare skin. As these are made to go deeper in the skin you should always be careful of what serum you are picking up for your skin, read reviews online, research a bit before plunging in instead of just impulse buying and then not liking it or worse damaging your skin as  most of the serums are pretty expensive due to the presence of active ingredients in them.

Avene Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Serum—My Views:

It comes in a clear bottle with pump packaging having a tight shut cap. Before purchasing it I wanted three qualities in my serum: good boost of hydration, relief from stretchy feeling caused by dryness of the skin and quick absorption in my skin. This serum meets all of my requirements. I felt my dry, discomforted skin felt a lot more hydrated and comforted within 2-3 uses. It is quickly absorbed by the skin that means you can use it in a rushed-up routine without waiting for it to dry. It is great for times when your skin feels dull and is in need of a quick boost. I love how my skin feels post using this one, it doesn't feel oily on my combination skin. I have also used it when my skin was no more dehydrated or flaky and I didn't feel it made my skin oily. It gives the right amount of hydration making the skin supple. A tiny pea-sized drop is all you need. It's texture is very gel-like and light, less is more with this one, and it does not feel sticky after application.

What I Like:

  • Instantly hydrates very dry and discomforted skin
  • Great for sensitive skin, does not irritate or sting
  • Has glycerin that attracts moisture from external air and internal skin layers
  • Very soothing formula
  • Light gel-like texture that is easily absorbed in the skin
  • Does not aggravate acne, I have acne prone skin and this did not irritate or increased the occurrence of acne on my skin
  • Travel-friendly packaging, also the see through bottle makes you aware of the quantity remaining

What I Don't Like:

  • Not for purposes other than hydration and comfort. No anti-ageing or brightness properties. I don't mind these but if you are looking for a miracle serum to have all these things then this one is not for you.
  • Contains silicone, although the percentage is very low that it does not hinder the touch and feel of the product on your skin; you couldn't tell it has silicone without reading the ingredients, at least I couldn't.
  • Availability is an issue! I just saw it once and now it's sold out everywhere. 🙁

Priced at: ¥ 3780 for 30 ml on amazon.co.jp

Will I repurchase? Definitely, if I am able to get my hands on it!
