I shared La Roche-Posay Effaclar Anti Acne Starter Kit in my Current Favourites #1 in the skincare edit. I mentioned that I'd be sharing a detailed review of this once I finish on the starter kit. I have actually never tried anything from this brand before, so I was really excited to try it out. I have had acne for a long time now, it's hormonal, and its always there on my face. There are days or weeks when I will have clear smooth skin but that doesn't last forever. It's just a phase and then we are back to the acne phase.
When I finished my HG cleansing oil by TISS, I was looking for something targeted for acne care. Hence, I picked this up with high hopes I must say. This starter kit comes with two trial sized products - Effaclar Purifying foaming Gel and Effaclar Duo [+]. this kit is supposed to last you for about 2 weeks, it lasted me for a little more than 3 weeks.
La Roche-Posay Effaclar Anti Acne Starter Kit
The Effaclar range is a daily use regime for sensitive, oily, acne prone skin.Whether for trial or convenience, the EFFACLAR ANTI-ACNE STARTER KIT provides up to a two week supply.
Step 1 - Cleanse: Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Use: Lather the gel between wet hands and apply to the face by massaging the skin gently. Rinse thoroughly.
Step 2 - Correct & Hydrate: Effaclar Duo [+] Use: Apply to the whole face morning and/or evening after cleansing with Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel.
Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel: AQUA / WATER, SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE PEG-8, COCO-BETAINE, HEXYLENE GLYCOL, SODIUM CHLORIDE, PEG-120 METHYL GLUCOSE DIOLEATE, ZINC PCA, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, CITRIC ACID, SODIUM BENZOATE, PHENOXYETHANOL
Effaclar Duo [+] AQUA / WATER, GLYCERIN, DIMETHICONE, ISOCETYL STEARATE, NIACINAMIDE, ISOPROPYL LAUROYL SARCOSINATE, SILICA, AMMONIUM POLYACRYLDIMETHYLTAURAMIDE / AMMONIUM POLYACRYLOYLDIMETHYL TAURATE, METHYL METHACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER, POTASSIUM CETYL PHOSPHATE, ZINC PCA, GLYCERYL STEARATE SE
As I mentioned above, this kit has two products. One is the cleanser and the other is the treatment. As the name suggests, the cleanser is a gel formula. It gives a very slight tingly sensation on my skin, which vanishes in few seconds. It makes my skin super clean, strips off any oil and leaves it fresh. I use it after removing my makeup (if I have any). It is soap free, so it doesn't lather up much, but still cleans thoroughly. After cleansing I apply the Effaclar Duo [+] all over my face, this is not a spot treatment. It is not super hydrating, if you have dry skin then I suggest using a hydrating serum before this.
Next, let's talk about the acne status. As I have hormonal acne, it is not possible to treat it completely with the help of external products but that helps. This kit gave me mixed results to be honest. Initial 3-4 days were indifferent obviously but then my skin really felt better, smooth, reduced acne and less inflamed. But, last couple of days have again been rough, I have few bumps, red and painful ones. You can tell that by looking at the before and after pictures.
That being said, I feel skincare products take a little bit longer to show proper results. Hence, once I finished up my starter kit I purchased the full sized products. I still want to give these two products one more try, I know, a little weird but .
How I Use These
The packaging says to use the foaming gel to cleanse the face and then to use the treatment in either morning or night or both the times. I use both of these every night and sometimes in the mornings as well.
What I like about La Roche-Posay Effaclar Anti Acne Starter Kit
- Good size to try on the product without buying the full size at first.
- Lasts a long time for a starter kit - more than 3 weeks on me.
- Great product if you have occasional mild breakouts.
- Good value for money.
- Travel friendly.
What I don't like about La Roche-Posay Effaclar Anti Acne Starter Kit
- Not great for severe acne, like mine.
- It didn't show any great improvement on me, my before pictures look better than after. :/
This is a great product if you want to try out the Effaclar range and if you have occasional breakouts. But, if you are someone like me and have hormonal acne that comes and goes in phases then you might want to give it a little more time and might want to invest in the full sized products once you finish the starter kit. 2-3 weeks is quite less for the product to work and for you to get an idea.
Do you suffer from acne episodes? Have you tried the La Roche-Posay Effaclar range? What were your thoughts, share your views in the communists action below, I'd love to know.
